Housing for All

Housing is a fundamental human need and human right. However, any hope that housing can be a profit-making commodity and still meet human needs has been exposed as a fantasy by COVID-19. One-third of the nation’s households—30 to 40 million—were estimated to be at risk of eviction during the crisis.

Eviction filings are more than 50% higher than the pre-pandemic average in some cities, according to the Eviction Lab, which tracks filings in nearly three dozen cities and 10 states. Landlords file around 3.6 million eviction cases every year.n Minneapolis/St. Paul, rates rose 106% in March, 55% in April, and 63% in May.

This means more families than ever are on the streets and just using the naked eye as you ride through the city of Minneapolis we see more and more tent encampments, encampments that move every few weeks due to the threat of park and Minneapolis police raids and evictions. The New Justice Project will work to create a city and a state that treats housing as a human right for all people and we do this through.
